What do you mean by "convert to abracadabra"? File formats aren't
different in Windows XP that they were in older versions.

However, if applications running on XP and older versions differ,
the file format may not be compatible with the different
application.

By 'send' do you mean email?
What email program are you sending with? Outlook? Outlook Express?
What is the format of the emails? Plain text? HTML? RTF?
How are you attaching the files?
What email program are you opening the emails with?
How are you trying to open the attachments?

Hi,thanks and sorry by using "not a specific computer
language",still lot to learn!
I mean email, sending with Outlook Express, HTML, and
inserting file attachment from My Pictures, Received
Files etc...what XP do have... or sending straight ahead
from these corresbondinly Files.
I do not have so much problem with these myself, but all
my friends, who still have the older versions, they get
these abracadabra emails from me, this is my very big
sorrow! I should like to send them emails, they do can
open!!

In Outlook Express, Tools, Options, Send tab, International Settings button,
what encoding are you using?
Is this the same as your friends?

In Outlook Express, Tools, Options, Send tab, under Mail Sending Format,
click on HTML and Text, what settings do you have?

Email messages are sent as text. Any attachments have be changed (encoded)
as text.
What we are trying to determine is how your attachments are encoded?
