How to Save User Profiles During Domain Change

Diane

We current have an nt4.0 server/domain clients use to log
on to the network. We also have a seperate
win2k/exhange/AD domain. We want to remove the
nt4.0/server domain and change all clients to log on to
the win2k domain. We need some help understanding how to
preserve their profiles through the process (users have
different profiles - not a common one). I know we can
save the profile, but I'm not sure what the steps are
(what to do when - do we copy the profile 1st or change
the domain 1st???) and where to copy it to for it to be
in effect in the new domain.

Our understanding is that copying the profile will
preserve the desktop, network connections, printers,
etc. Please advise if this is not correct and we need to
do something else to make this work. Thanks very much
for your help. We have not worked with profiles and
don't want to create a mess.

You can use ADMT to migrate profiles to a new domain.

You may also use USMT 2.5 (from the Windows Server 2003 CD) to backup
and then restore the profiles...even to a new domain

Thanks for the pointers Johan. I'll check into these
tools and post back if I have further questions.
