move user accounts to a new domain?

My employer has just bought a small company that has 50 xp users on a
domain, the domain is being changed to new owners domain.
My question is, is there a simple way to rename the local profiles so they
can logon to new domain.
I am trying to avoid having to copy users very large profiles on pcs from
old account to new as this will take ages and cause problems as hard drives
are over half used on many with the user account profile sizes.

also they are using xp pro the only change is the domain they are logging on
to.

Any suggestions welcome.

This not an easy thing to script or automate, but basically the steps you
need to take are:

Logon as Adminstraotr.
Rename the user's profile-folder.
Leave the domain, and join computer to new domain.
Logon once as the standard user.
Log off, and back on as Administrator.
Delete the new profile-folder which the last action created.
Rename the original profile-folder back as it was.
Check and if necessary adjust the rights of the profile, as the user now has
a different SID the old rights may not apply.
Logon as the user, and he/she should have the original profile.

If each PC has more than one local user, then you need to do the renaming
steps for each of them.
