How to save an image from any website as a .jpg image

I've just about pulled my hair out, trying to figure this
simple question out.

I have a new Dell 5150 Inspiron laptop, running Windows
XP Professional. During the past month everything has
been going fine, until yesterday. Then is seems like
something, or some setting someplace changed without my
knowledge.

My question is:

How do I save an any image (or any picture) from any
website to a folder like My Pictures, in a .jpg format?

Everytime I find an image or picture that I want to save
from any website, like Amazon.com, or even eBay.com, when
I place the cursor over the image, and right click on my
mouse, I can find the option of "Save Picture As", but
when I click on "Save Picture As", the second line that
indicates my file extension always only shows two options:

Save as type: ART(*.art) or Bitmap (*.bmp)

It does NOT give me the option of saving the image as
a .jpg image.

Then once the image is saved, no other software on my
laptop like Paint Shop Photo Album can open that image.
It always tells me that the image cannot be opened, or it
is invalid.

Now I can try saving the very same exact image on my
other laptop, and the image option is available to be
saved just fine as a .jpg image.

I'm going nuts trying to find the answer in all the so-
called HELP on my laptop. but I can't find the answer.
Can someone please help me????????????

remove temp internet files.

it worked for me..

I have had the identical problem for several months so I
can understand your frustration. Here's what I do now:
Instead of using "save picture as," right click "Copy"
and then paste to whatever software program you are
using. In my case it is Microsoft Photo Editor; or, you
can paste it to the Paintpad (.bmp), or any other program
that will accept it. At least this procedure works for
