Using Home XP, I keep going into hibernation every five hours if I leave my
computer idle. How do I get it to resume without pressing the start button?
If I wanted to turn it off, I would before walking away! PLease help.

Hello,

Have you tried tinkering with the settings here:
Start > Control Panel > Power Options

Under Power schemes, set hibernate to Never.

Hi Michelled,

Looks like you dont want you PC to go into hibernation to begin with.
In that case, you can turn off the hibernation from your power
settings. Follow these steps:

1. Goto Start -> Run and type "powercfg.cpl" (without quotation
marks). Alternatively, you can right-click on your desktop, choose
'Properties', click on the 'Screen Saver' tab and click on the 'Power'
button at the bottom.
2. Th 'Power Option Properties' dialog box will pop up.
3. Goto the 'Hibernate' Tab, and make sure that the 'Enable
Hibernation' check box is unchecked.
4. Go back to the 'Power Schemes, Tab, and under the 'Settings for
<your chosen> power scheme' group box, go to 'System Hibernates' and
choose 'Never' from the drop down box and click 'Apply'.

Thats it.

I would suggest that you restart your computer once, just incase.
Hope this helps.

Is this a laptop or a desktop? Most laptops have a "Resume" button,
which may well have small 'moon' symbol on it. You may have to also hit
a "Fn" key as in "Fn key + Resume key". Your computer manual may help.

If you have a desktop or tower, you may be able to set the key combo
that 'wakes up' the computer in the Hibernation options.

Or you could turn Hibernate off as others have suggested.

Cheers,

Cliff
