How to restore the lost mails downloaded in OE?

The problem occured under this circumstance. When I was compressing mails
downloaded in the OE,the OS restarted unexpectedly. After that I found all
the previous downloaded mailes disappeared. Unfortunately, I didn't backup
those mails. I came to the file folder that mail files located in, but just
saw some .DBX files which can only be opened by Visual Foxpro program.

Could you please help me to restore the lost mails? Can I restore the whole
OS to get back mails? Or use the .DBX files to do it?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

The .dbx files are your mail files. They don't open with Visual FoxPro, but
with Outlook Express. However, restarting in the middle of compressing may
have damaged them, possibly beyond the point of being able to save anything
that was lost. They tend to be delicate in nature. There is a program here
by MVP Steve Cochran that may be able to help you called dbxpress:
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx, but I cannot guarantee that it
will and the program is not free. You may first want to try the cheaper
dbxtract: http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx ($5 vs $25).

An Outlook Express newsgroup is probably the best forum
to discuss this question.
