How to reset single subject line; customize view didn't work

In Windows XP, the subject line was inadvertantly changed from a sibngle line
to the subject and three lines for the message and I am trying to change it
back. In the help section, the instructions were to go to customize view and
change it to single line subject but it didn't work.

Version of Outlook? Type of email account? View, Autopreivew will toggle
the 3 line preview off and on but if you use IMAP, I found changing the view
to one that doesn't use the preview works better (also on the view menu,
under current view)

The instructions you found were for a different thing - converting from the
compact view to the single line view used in older versions. See
