Getting messages grouped by subject

D

Dave

Hello

I have my Inbox set to group messages by Subject -- at least it tries to
group by Subject. Most of the time it works, but sometime, especially with a
large number of messages with the same Subject line, Outlook groups the
messages into one or more groupings.

I've played with the "Customize this view" settings, but can't get it to
group messages consistently. I'm sure the answer is simple and obscure, but
I haven't stumbled into it yet.

Thanks in advance for any help --- Dave

Does it make any difference if you group them By Conversation instead of by
subject?

Diane,

They look the same, but could have extra spaces or special characters since
there are a variety of e-mail clients. I'll take a closer look the next time
I see this.

Thanks - Dave

Are you sure the subjects are 100% identical? A space can throw it off and
make a new subject.

Diane & Brian,

It turns out that there are differences to the Subject line. These are
e-mails from public forums, so there's a mix of e-mail clients. The
difference in subject lines seems to be the handling of "re:" --- different
mixes of re:, Re:, RE: --- with different spaces and different placement on
the subject line, either before or after [name of forum].

So...... any suggestions for getting them grouped together? Several
versions ago, Outlook allowed users to drag/drop groups of messages onto
another group of messages, and would change the subject lines so they'd
display in the same grouping. Is there any equivalent of this in the current
versino of Outlook?

Thanks again -- Dave

If you group by subject, can you drag the messages from one group to the
other?

Brian,

I tried that, but as I drag over the group I want to move the messages into,
the cursor stays a circle with a bar in the middle. I know there were
previous versions of Outlook that would allow this -- but I can't get it to
work.

Is there an Outlook option the enables/disables this ?

Thanks - Dave
