How to remove pesky folder?

H

Howie

Running OL2003, I've removed an IMAP mail account via the Tools/Email
Accounts procedure, but the high-level IMAP account folder remains
under my "All Mail Folders"/"Personal Folders" list. Whenever I
attempt to delete, or "close", that folder, I am unable to enact any
action. How can one delete a folder from the list after its
associated account has been removed? I guess I assumed this would
have occurred when I removed the account?

Thanks,

Create a new mail profile without the IMAP account.

Thanks for the direction. When I go under the "New" menu bar, I don't
find "profile". Is there an easy way to do this? Can I effectively
utilize all my existing folders sans the one which although it doesn't
exist is still listed?

Control Panel->Mail Icon->Profiles->New. As for your other question, it depends on what type of folders these are - do they belong to the IMAP account or your .pst?

Yikes! When I did that, and opened that profile, all my calendar,
tasks, contact info, etc. did not get retained. :-(

I would like to simply delete the folders no longer in use due to fact
the account(s) was closed (I'm still puzzled why they are showing up
since I did close the accounts within OL).

Actually, I could probably live without OL mail (just use another
program). Is there a way to open OL, with a new mail profile, and
have all my calendar information available?

Thanks again,

Howie

When you create a new profile, you have to point it to your PST. Here's some
great instructions on how to create a new profile:

I only seem to be making matters worse... now, in addition to the
closed IMAP email account which insists on maintaining its presence
under the "All Mail Folders" column on the left side of the OL 2003
screen, I find two "Personal Folders" listings below the IMAP account,
and at the bottom of this column, which I can't close or delete
either. Very frustrating...

Help!

A follow-up to my own post... I found the information at:
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/ghosts.htm to be quite helpful. I
successfully deleted the defunct mail folder from the listed view
using this methodology (deleting the registry entry associated with
it).

Now... how do I get rid of similarly non-contributing "Personal
Folders" listings which refuse to be closed and give off the "the
operation failed. An object could not be found" error message when I
attempt to right click and close?

Thanks,

Howie

It could be that the file is corrupted. You'll want to locate the file and
run the inbox repair tool against it (scanpst.exe). You may have to run the
repair several times, until you scan it and it finds no errors. To locate
scanpst.exe, simply use your file find function. Double-click the executable
and follow the instructions.
Let me know if this helps.

I ran the scanpst (inbox repair tool) and although it identified and
presumably corrected some errors, the rogue "Personal Folders" (two of
them) remain post-repair.

Try Going to Data File Management

1. Click File menu
2. Select Data File Management
3. Click one-by-one on the items in list and click Remove.
4. Close window
5. Close OL2003
6. Restart.

For IMAP? You don't know what you're talking about.
