I have a laptop with XP home. I some how set it up to
prompt for a password when it starts up. I reformated
the HD back to the original config. All files were
removed and I was back to point a but for some reason I
still get prompted for a pass when the computer first
turns on. Note: this is not a normal network user name
and pass. There is a blank screen with ( enter password
= ) in the top left corner. I have the password and can
still perform all admin task. I just need help on how to
get rid of the password.

I beleive u r talking about the BIOS password. In order to disable the
option u need to go to the BIOS setup.

In order to get into BIOS setup , u need to press a key during the machine
boot . For many machines it is one of he following
DEL ETE Key or any of the Function Key like F10 .

If u explore the start up options in BIOS set up u should be able to
disable the same.

The following link gives u info about phoenix BIOS , ur Laptop may have a
different BIOS .This link will give an idea how to proceed :

http://www.computerhope.com/help/phoenix.htm

To identify the BIOS manufacturer , the manufacturer name will be displayed
the moment u turn on the computer may be on the Right hand top corner of ur
screen , chk out.

Regards,
Venkat.
