How to reinstall IE6

My WIN XP o/s IE6 won't execute. When I click the icon I
get a fatal error and the option to either send/not send
the error details to MS. Unfortunately the sytem does not
allow me to de-install & then re-install. When I attempt a
complete re-install using the program on MS website, the
routine indicates that a later version of IE6 is detected
on my PC & cancels the reinstall. I have tried physically
deleting the contents of the IE6 folder, but am prevented
by a message saying that it is being used by another user
or program - which it does not appear to be.
How can I clean out IE6 & get a clean reinstall?
At present I am using Netscape 7.1, and am starting to like
it!

i am also having this problem! the symptoms you describe
are exactly the same, and i have tried reinstalling many
times, and even tried messing with the registry
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378). can anyone
help?! i miss my IE

You don't need to reinstall, you need to Check your system for "hijackware":

You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each and every
use, even "right out of the box". But even then, they can't catch
everything. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.
