How To Recover Contacts From Outlook Personal Foders Backup?

Guest

Could anyone tell me how to recover my contacts and calendar from an Outlook
Personal Folders backup?

When I open the backup I can see all my email so I can copy it back in.
However, I can't see the contacts folder or the calendar folder so I can't
recover them.

Hi,

If I understood properly, your issue is: the Contacts and Calendar folders
are missing.

Is that correct?

Based on your description, it seems the Contacts and Calendar folders are
missing from the Navigation Pane so that you cannot find a way to access
these folders. To make them display in the Navigation Pane again, follow
the steps below:

Note: the steps below take an example of Outlook 2003.

1. In Outlook 2003, click Tools>Options>Other
2. Click Navigation Pane Options.
3. Check all the items in the list, or simply click Reset button.
4. Click OK twice.

Now check to see if the Calendar and Contacts folders are displayed in the
Navigation Pane.

If this does not work, please start Outlook in Safe Mode to narrow down
this issue:

* Test in Outlook Safe Mode
================
Outlook Safe Mode can narrow down issues which are caused by any
extensions, corrupted resources, files, registries, or templates.

1. Click Start>Run.
2. In the Open box, type: "Outlook /safe" (without the quotation marks)
Notes: There is a space character between Outlook and the forward slash (/).
3. Click OK.

Meanwhile, just for your information, about how to backup and recover
Outlook data, please refer to the following KB article:

287070 How to manage .pst files in Outlook 2002 and in Outlook 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;287070

If all fail, please help us collect more information for further research:

* Information Collection
===============
1. What is the version of your Outlook? Have you applied all the latest
updates?
2. Does this occur on another Outlook user profile? Please create a new one
to test.
3. Does this occur on another Windows user profile? Please create a new one
to test.
4. How do you "open the backup"? Do you mean you have opened a .pst file
via File>Open>Outlook Data File?
5. Restart Outlook and do not "open the backup". Can you reproduce the same
scenario?

Please try my suggestions, and update me with the results and information.
If something is unclear, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks Milly and Leon.

Milly had the answer - when I changed to All Folders view (Go - All Folders)
I could see the Contacts and Calendar folders.

Thanks again to you both for your help with this.
