How to recognise my camera as "Mass Storage Device"

B

Bart Werbrouck

My previous camera was recognized by win xp as a mass storage device,
meaning i could transfer files in both directions (PC <> camera)

My new camera is recognised as a plain camera in windows xp meaning it
uses that stupid "Scanner Camera wizard". allowing me only to transfer
my pcitures from my camera to PC. I cannot copy files (pictures, even
music files) to the flash card anymore. :furious:

How to disable the "Scanner and Camera" detection and change it to the
normal "Mass Storage Device"

thnx for your help

The easiest and most direct way to proceed is to get a flash media
reader for your computer (usually USB-connected) and physically
move the media between your camera and your PC.

This has the advantage of leaving behind all camera-proprietary
software and its limitations. The media will appear to your PC
as a removable disk drive.

This may depend on the camera, driver/software and a camera setting.

Sort of an example

Olympus C8080
Windows XP SP 1
Default Camera recognized as a mass storage device, but not by the Scanner &
Camera Wizard
Camera has other than the default mode available, and can control compatable
printers directly.
Camera has a "Control mode" allowing remote control of the camera & picture
download via USB, including LCD viewer display contents (Dynamic) Most
camera settings/functions are accessable/settable. (With third party
software.)

Addition (Install) of entries from developer disk allow recognition by
Scanner and Camera wizard, and some other software.

Camera internal software and windows must be toggled/set manually from the
normal default that shows up as a mass storage device to either remote
control mode or printer control mode. Your camera most likely has similar
settings. The "control setting was not documented in the normal C8080 camera
manuals.

3d party software for Olympus cameras.
