How to Prevent Autostarts?

I'm pretty good at finding the autostarts hidden in all the
RUN type entries in the registry, in the autoexec and config
files, in the win.ini and system.ini files, and in all the
Start Menu>Programs>Startup directories in documents and settings.

But there must be other sources I cannot find. For example,
DEFWATCH is a part of Norton AV and autostarts seemingly all
by itself. I can see where it's shown in MSCONFIG, but I cannot
find where it is launched.

Is there a complete description of this anywhere??

Autoruns is a programme, which list everything starting and
where it starts from.Try downloading and installing:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html

You can save the output of the Everything tab to a txt file.
Place the cursor on any item in the list and it gives a save
as option on the File drop down. Post a copy of suspect
entries giving details of the start location.

Hope this helps.
