How to play mp3 wav on XP

Hi,
I have some wav files several years ago that I wanted to hear again. But XP
media player can't play them back. They were taken out of an old model mp3
player as WAVs. So how do I play them back on XP? Thanks
J

Note that I've installed various codecs, Seems to be a case that isn't
related to codecs
Thanks

Dear Drew,
Thanks for your prompt reply, but I have to tell you that even using the
software, I still couldn't load the file and convert it. But in Windows 98
SE, there is a quite informative message which said mmsystem326 error that
could tell me about something. Please help if you've got any further ideas.
Thanks in advance
J

Try a different player- a web search will bring loads of alternatives. If
they don't work in a different payer as well they are probably corrupt.

If they are really MP3 files, but they show
as .WAV files in Explorer, then try renaming
one of them to whatever.mp3 and try playing it.

Maybe something got screwed up during the copy.

Also try right clincking on one of them, pick Properties,
pick Summary and post back here with whatever it says.
