Can anyone tell me how to re-organize my programs in
the "All Programs" menu, so that I could have general
headings, such as MS, Games, Graphics, etc.; then to
assign the programs to those headings. I was able to do
this in Windows 98, but can't seem to be able to do it in
Windows XP Home.
Thanks

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

The "Programs" folder is what you want to modify. Before
you change anything - Copy that Programs folder to some
backup location, in case you make changes you don't like.

Open Programs, Create the groups you want and move
the icons from specific groups into the new one or whatever
changes you wish to make

NOTE: The All users group is for everyone. Some icons
may only appear in your specific Start Menu,
Programs in your profile under Doc & Settings

Right click on the Start Button and select EXPLORE ALL USERS. Click on START
MENU / PROGRAMS then organize as you wish.

Those menus reflect a structure of folders, just as in Win98. There are
however two sets - one for All Users; one personal to the logged in
user, and what is seen is the sum of the two. You get at them by a
right click on the Start Button and either Open All Users or just Open
for the two sets - then in that open Programs and make you folders in
that. So you *might* find a need to make a folder of the same name in
each, but I would try to avoid that, and to get things in All Users
unless there is something you want to keep to yourself

You can also click the start button, then 'right click'
on any program. A short menu will pop up. Choose 'sort by
name'.

What this will do is sort all of the programs that are in
folders (ones that have a pop-out menu for options)and
sort them alphabeticaly.

Program icons that do not have folders (does not have pop-
out options and are just icon shortcuts)will also sort
alpabeticaly at the end of the list.

I find my programs much easier to find this way.
