How to make Auto Correct feature apply only to a particular templa

Hello,

I am using Word 2003.

I made a test template called test.dot. I then created this Autotext: gc for
gardencenter and saved it in the test.dot. Now I want this Autotext to be
only applicable to this template. However, when I open an existing document
which was based on Normal.dot, I find that the Autotext for gc has been
applied here also.

If my Autotext has been saved in only test.dot, why is Word 2003 applying it
to documents made from Normal.dot ?

You're confident that you had "test.dot" selected in the "Look in" box in
the AutoText dialog when you created the entry?

You can use the Organizer to move/copy AutoText entries from one template to
another.

Thanks for your reply.

However I made a typo in my first post. I want to create a Autocorrect entry
(not a Autotext entry) called gc in test.dot, so that when I type gc Word
will type gardencenter for me. Now there is a Look In box in the Autotext
tab, but no such box in the Autocorrect tab. However I am creating the
Autocorrect entry in the test.dot template which I have opened and then
saved. Why does Word 2003 then apply that Autocorrect entry to a document
from Normal.dot also ?

I have the "test.dot" selected in the "Look In" box in the Autotext dialog,
all this time. Still Word applies the "gc" for "gardencenter" Autocorrect
entry created in test.dot to documents from Normal.dot.

How do I make an Autocorrect entry apply to a particular template only ?

Sorry, I missed "AutoCorrect" in your subject line. All unformatted
AutoCorrect entries are stored in .acl files (by language) and are available
to all Office applications that support them. Formatted AutoCorrect entries
are stored in Normal.dot. There is no provision for storing them elsewhere;
it can't be done AFAIK.

Thans a lot Suzanne. That makes sense.

Now which one of the two is preferable to use; Autocorrect or Autotext. I
have a lot of medical terms which I do not want to type fully.

AutoCorrect is definitely more useful for this; don't worry about
overloading the .acl file; it can handle it.
