After several crashes, the hard drive has died, and now I can't get the
computer to boot, it won't even read to the CD-Rom to install XP. If I put
a "blank" hard drive in, how do I get XP on it to have a bootable system?
The computer comes on, gives me info that there is no master drive, and then
goes to a screen that shows "Invalid OS", that's as far as I can get without
turning it off/on. Won't go into configuration utility. I'm stuck. Thanks
for any assistance.

You have to go into the computer's BIOS to change the boot order, making the
CD drive the primary boot device.. to find out this info, look in the
computer manual, or contact the vendor.. without knowing make and model, it
is difficult to determine which key one has to press to get into BIOS.. each
manufacturer has its own cute way..

Having done this, you can then boot from your XP CD.. info and very good
instructions on installing XP can be found here..
