HOW TO: install xp home over win2000 pro?????

How can I install XP home on a win2k pro machine?
I want to reformat and do a clean install of xp. When I
ran the xp installation cd it set up a dual-boot with both
OS's on the same drive! The xp setup never gave me the
option to delete win2k and reformat. Now I've got a TON of
unwanted stuff on my hard drive - including a second OS.
How can I fix it??

Hi,

You should have done the reformatting with FDISK from the
MSDOS command dos prompt, or with a format command from
the MS Dos prompt. this is faster and reliable since it
checks for bad sectors and fixes them.

Regarding the option of not giving u the option of
deleting the existing OS, this happens when they use the
same folder name, Win 2k Pro uses WINNT and Winxp uses
Windows.

You can't install XP home over Win 2K, you will need to do a clean install
by booting from the XP CD following the XP setup prompts to delete the
existing Win 2K partition and create, format new space for XP to install to.
You can upgrade XP Pro over Win 2K.
You boot from the CD and do a clean install.

This is not a good idea, since you don't have the option of using
the superior NTFS file system that way.

The correct way to do this is to boot from the XP CD and follow
the prompts for a clean installation. It will reformat the drive
as part of the process.
