if you purchased an upgrade then you need another retail
style cd of 95 98 me nt or 2000 to insert in place of xp
when prompted.

to clean install xp
1 boot to the xp cd(may have to reset bios to cdrom first
boot device)(need to put xp in and watch for press any
key to boot to the cdrom and then press a key right away)

2 agree to the license(f8)

3 put in qualifying prior windows when prompted

4 highlight partition and d enter and l ,until only
unpartitioned space.

5 c and enter three times and put back in xp cd when
prompted

You just boot from the CD. You may have to go into your bios setup and make
sure that CDROM comes before hard drives in the boot order. It will
automatically load the setup program.

You boot from the CD and do a clean install.

Greetings --

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered
the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of
the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of
boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
