How to install ACE engine on XP SP2?

The ace engine seems to accelerate the speed in access to access database. I
downloaded MDAC_TYP.EXE 2.8, but XP SP2 doesn't allow me to install it.
Is there any work around this?

Despite the title, its application is broader than the C language.

(Since you asked for the ACE engine, I assume you want to use the ACCDB
format, which is not the same thing as MDAC 2.8.)
