How to give a taskbar button to a .bat file ?

I have a batch file that initiates a long-running application (via
run). I would like to have a button on the taskbar corresponding
to this application. How can I do this?

Drag it to the Quick Lanuch area and create a shortcut there. You can then
change the icon of the shortcut if you want to.
