I have tried to stop this to happen by going to CD/DVD -> Properties ->
AutoPlay
(tab) and manually selecting Take No Action for each type of media inserted.
This doesn´t work.

Where should I look for the problem?

Visit my website http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Click the Win XP Faq
button and take a look at question 8 'how do i turn off auto play for cd's'

There is a free program on the net called TweakUI. This stops autostart
dead. Google the program.

Try this:

Go into the registry:
Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer
Name: NoDriveTypeAutoRun
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 181 hex 0x0b5

Check Tweak UI from:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
and clear the autoplay option for CDs and DVDs.

If you want to leave autoplay enabled and just disable autoplay for a
specific CD/DVD, hold the Shift key down as the CD/DVD spins up.

When you insert the cd, hold down the shift key.

Hi John,
I have tried to use Gpedit.msc but I am told by teh system that "it Can´t be
found"
Do I have a bug in my system?

Yours Sincerly
Claes

No you don't have a bug, you are obviously using XP Home. You didn't mention
which version of XP you had in your original post. Unfortunately GPedit is
only available on XP Pro. Instead try the windows powertoy TweakUI (free). I
don't have the URL to hand so goolge search for TweakUI. Once installed
clcik the My Computer option on the left menu and then select Auto play
followed by Types. remove the tick from the box marked 'enable autoplay for
cd and dvd drives' then click OK.

understand why.
I,m very greatful. Have a nice day.

My pleasure. Hopefully you got the problem sorted with TweakUI. Incidentally
my web page has been updated to include the TweakUI solution for XP Home.
