When I insert a software installation cd nothing happens

If I look at the AutoPlay properties of my dvd reader drive the drop down
combobox shows Music files, pictures, mixed content, music cd, video files,
dvd movie and hddvd.

Should there be something like Install or Setup?

When I insert a software installation cd nothing happens.

Not sure what would happen with the above kinds of CD since I don't use
them.

Is there something I can do to make it run installation setup automatically?

Thanks in advance

What happens when you "double click" on the DVD drive when the
software CD is in it?

Same as right clicking and selecting "Open"

it is possible there is no AUTO RUN on the DVD.
you might look in the root of the DVD and see if there is a AUTO RUN program there.

might let us know what the program is as well. might be a clue there,

There is "autorun.inf"

But shouldn't AutoPlay properties drop down combobox for the device include
and entry for install?

If you right-click your dvd in MyComputer
Click Properties
Click AutoPlay
Click the down arrow in the dropdown box.

Do you see something for Install" or "Setup"?
I only have the items I listed below.

Thanks

There can be many reasons why a CD does not auto run (I can think of at
least 3). A good starting point would be

http://support.microsoft.com

Start with a question like "CD does not auto run".

If you are lucky, you might come across a Microsoft utility that allegedly
auto repairs problems like this. Unfortunately apart from knowledge of its
existence, I do not know where it is located or exactly what it is called
(or even how effective it is).

The question I've been trying to get a answer to is:

Click the down arrow in the dropdown box.

Should there be an item like Install or Setup?

Thanks

If there is an Autorun.inf THEN somthing will happen, "nothing" for
"install.exe" or "setup.exe" if that is what you are asking.

What I asking has nothing to do with a CD.
Rather it has to do with the Properties with the CD drive.

....snip...

I must have missed you saying the dropdown box did not contain such an
entry.

Thanks a lot, knowing that helps a lot.

I missed the original questions, but are you the OP? And if so, does
this CD have a Autorun.inf file in the root if you explore it or open
it? IF there is the Autorun file, "that" feature could be turned off or
disabled in the registry. Also the possiblity exists that you don't have
rights to install software and that will prevent it from running.

Do you know the key I can check?

I have all rights
