How to get rid of SP3?

G

MS keeps downloading SP3 which I can't install because I
don't have the "Jit Enabler" on my PC. Amy from the MS site
cannot help because MS doesn't allow me to send her the bmps
she required of the errors I get. It wont install in Safe
Mode and the SP3 I downloaded from the MS site itself gave
me a "corrupt file" error. Since it isn't possible to
install it, how do I get it off my task-bar? It keeps
popping up to be installed and wont go away. How do I stop
MS from continuing to download it to my PC and how do I get
it off my taskbar?

or Microsoft Update.
2. Click Custom.
3. Click to clear the check box that is next to the update that you want to
hide.
4. Expand the update that you want to hide, and then click the "Don't show
this update again" check box.

or if already download and waiting installation, click on the yellow shield,
select custom, uncheck SP3, then you'll be asked if you want to hide the
update, select okay.

Neither one are on my Start/All Programs list. I have the
classic view on XP/Home/Sp2.
2. Click Custom.
3. Click to clear the check box that is next to the update
that you want to hide.
4. Expand the update that you want to hide, and then click
the "Don't show this update again" check box.

When I click on Custom it doesn't give me the choice to
uncheck SP3. It tries to install it, then I get the error. I
close the error and there SP3 sits, in the taskbar.

Then we'll do it the hard way, first of all clear out the
softwaredistribution download folder then manually visit the Windows Update
site via Internet Explorer (Tools - Windows Update), scan for updates,
you'll be offered SP3, then you can hide it from there.

Stop the Automatic Updates service

Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Delete the contents of the Download folder
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
Click OK.
Open the Download folder.
Delete all contents of the Download folder.
Close the window.

Start the Automatic Updates service
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

By deleting the contents of the Download folder - you have removed any
downloaded updates.

OK... we had so many problems after installing and uninstalling IE7 that my
husband did a System Recovery. That made things worse. He had to go to work
and I'm sitting here with a PC that barely works and a deadline coming up.
I can't install anything on it now from a CD. So SP3 is the least of my
concerns at the moment. All the software (on CDs) loads part way and XP
hangs, dies, stops running and the software never installs. I finally get a
"not responding" or "it can't initialize" error. I don't know what the hell
I can do short of a reformat and reinstallination of the OS. Even the
spellchecker for OE wont work. I'm just sick to my stomach over this and my
work is piling up.
Stop the Automatic Updates service

Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.

That also went part way and "died." It's stopped responding. It now says
"stopping" and there it sits. Nothing seems to work on here now. I scanned
this PC with several anti scumware programs, have a firewall and anti-virus
software. It came up clean before the System Recovery.
Delete the contents of the Download folder
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
Click OK.
Open the Download folder.
Delete all contents of the Download folder.
Close the window.

OK, it's gone.
Start the Automatic Updates service
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

It's still in a strange state of "stopping" since it locked up before
stopping. And now Start, Stop and Pause are grayed out.
