How to re-apply SP3 when SP3 is already installed?

On a local computer system SP3 of WinXP is already installed.
However it seems to me that (after some other installations) some DLLs are replaced by older versions.
Or something else is re-arranged.

I want to re-apply SP3 again. Unfortunately when starting the downloaded full SP3 package it tells me:

"SP3 already installed. ABORT"

How can I (manually) fake SP3->SP2 as latest installed SP2?

Or otherwise how can I force SP3 to be installed anyway?

I don't want an online download of SP3 from MS site but install it from a local full setup.exe

Why re-apply SP3?

What is the problem you are trying to fix?

You need to download the full SP3 package for "administrators."

You would get more focused help if you would tell us what .dll's are giving
you problems, what "something else is re-arranged [sic]" means, and the
full text of any error messages you are getting (not paraphrased).

You cannot "fake" a new installation of SP3. You have to fix what is broken
another way and since you didn't tell us what is broken, I can't give you
specific advice.

In general, you might try running the System File Checker.

Start>Run>sfc /scannow [OK]

Otherwise post back with the missing details for more help.

Meg:
If you right-click on My Computer in the Start menu and then click on
Properties, does the info there indicate Service Pack 3 is included in the
System? Assuming it does, do you have any reason to believe the SP3
installation was faulty?

Setting aside the issue of older dates/versions of certain DLLs, does the
system boot & function properly? Is there any indication that something is
amiss with your system?

Assuming all seems well in that the system indicates SP3 has been installed
and you've encountered no problems with the OS nor your programs/data, might
it be wise to let well enough alone?
