How to get rid of message asking to make a recovery cd

I just bought a new laptop with windows XP service pack 2 on it
pre-installed. In the beginning it asked me to make a recovery disc which i
dutifully did. however, everytime i reboot the computer there still pops up a
message from the taskbar asking me if i want to make a recovery disc. I can
only click the message away (Really annoying to have to do that every time)
Where is a setting to get permanently rid of this message? Tx Mikey

It seems to be a feature of your OEM preinstalled XP. Have you reviewed the manufacturer of the computer's web?

Hi Mikey,

Click start/run or hit the winkey+r to open a run prompt. Type MSCONFIG and
click ok. Go to the startup tab, one of these programs is likely the entry
that incurs the prompt. Locate it and uncheck it.

This is something installed by the manufacturer of your computer not a
Windows feature.

Before you spend too much time figuring out how to "get it to go away" I'd
inspect/test the recovery disc(s) you made when first prompted to make sure
the process completed properly and that you have a way to recover your
computer.

Usually when a manufacturer provides this method of creating recovery media
it's a 'one shot deal' and once successfully completed is no longer
available.

That you're still getting the message makes me suspicious that your recovery
media was not completed. Should that prove to be the case and you are
successful in "getting it to go away" you may find yourself in a bind if you
need to perform a disaster recovery on your computer.

If it turns out to just be a glitch and your recovery media is good contact
manufacturers support or at the very least post back with the make and model
of the computer in hopes of finding someone who has experienced the same
thing.

Image your computer with something like Acronis True Image or Ghost.
Save the image on a second internal or external hard drive. Now test
your recovery disks. When you know they work, restore the computer with
the image you made.

Hi Rick,,, things are never easy i guess

Altho i can get to unclick the reminder message in the msconfig under tab
'start-up' it now reverts under the general tab there to 'selective start-up'
instead of 'general start-up'' , generating yet again a message during
start-up (this time if i really want a diagnostic or selective start-up
instead of a general start-up. If i again choose a general start-up, the
original message about the recovery CD comes back again automatically). Any
more ideas??? tx Mikey
