How to get rid of "Mark all as read" button?

The "Mark All as Read" button in Outlook is nothing short of evil and has
caused me great frustration too many times to count. I know that I should be
using the flags instead and I am slowly migrating over to it, but still it is
helpful and meaningful to have some messages marked as unread after I have
glanced at them once.

As "Mark All as Read" is next to options in the menu I do use I sometimes
accidentally click it and then am ready to throw the computer out the window.
Is there any way to make that option not show up in the menu or in some
other way disable it?

Less importantly: who in Microsoft came up with this button and do they have
to suffer the consequences of this mistake as I do?

What version of Outlook?

The placement you describe doesn't sound like standard Outlook placement. The
"Mark All as Read" menu item is in the Edit menu and there is no "Options"
item in that menu. It's also not a default button on the toolbar.

I use the Mark All as Read option frequently. It's very handy.

So select Customize from the Tools Menu, and then Left click on the
"Mark All as Read" button and move it or R-click on it and delete it.

More importantly, you may want to reconsider your condemnation of the
person at Microsoft.

I'm using Outlook 2007. The button in question is under Edit --> Mark all
as Read. I've tried right-clicking on it but there are no options to move it
or remove it from the menu.

Thanks.

I probably should have taken more care to word my question clearly. What I
meant is that the "Mark all as Read" button in next to other
buttons/options/selections that I do use so I am prone to accidentally
selecting it when I have no intention of doing so. Specifically it is right
next to the ever-useful "Mark as Unread" button/option/selection.

Ideally I'd like to get rid of the "Mark all as Read" button all together
but if that isn't possible I'd like to at least move it so it isn't next to
something I use all the time.

I was able to poke around and follow your guidance. Thank you a Million
times over - you have truly made my Outlook user experience less painful.
This will be very beneficial to me.

Right click on the menu bar.
Click customize.
Commands tab.
Under Category, select Edit.
Under Commands, click and drag Mark all as Read out of the command list
(or put it wherever you want).
