How to get rid of "Log on to Windows" dialog box?

I run XP prof. Originally windows opened with desktop. After a few crashes
windows now open with "Log on to Windows" dialog box.
I performed crash recovery procedure, removing all data from Event Viewer and
changing CrashOnAuditFail value to 1. But the windows still open with "Log
on to
windows" dialog box.
If you know how to get rid of the dialog box, please let me know.
