Probably your friend's computer has been infected by Sasser worm. Run any antivirus software to disinfect the computer and encourage your friend to follow these basic security advices:
- Use a firewall (Windows XP includes one.)
- Use an antivirus and update it frequently.
- Update Windows from Windows Update/Microsoft Update each month or turn on Automatic Updates.
