How to get mouse wheel to work, touchpad

David Ellis

Running winXP SP1 on a Dell Inspiron 7500 notebook. Logitech wheel
mouse plugged into PS/2 port works normally except for wheel. If I
install the Logitech driver, it insists I plug the mouse into a USB
port. None is available for this purpose. Any suggestions?

uninstall the logitech software. then go to the mouse in
control panel. there may be a box to check called "assume
wheel is present"

sorry...the mouse properties in device manager...advanced
settings tab/wheel detection.

I've been using "Assume wheel is present," and have tried "Detect
wheel." Neither works.

FWIW, the Logitech driver is not installed and the latest version of
Synaptics' driver is installed; on start-up the driver announces it
has detected another pointing device and is disabling special
(touchpad) features.
