We currently have a service account mailbox into which mail from customers
arrives from time to time. I would like these emails to be forwarded to our
outsourced servicepartner, in order for them to handle the messages.

How can this be done? I've tried to set up a rule in Outlook (as the User
Manager in ActiveDirectory wouldn't allow me to forward to an external
address), but it will only work with internal receiptients.

Why is this? Surely; the exchange server should be able to forward to an
external receiptient??

Exchange servers have lots of options. Perhaps your Exchange administrator
has blocked forwarding to external addresses.

Yes, but it all happens in Active Directory, not Outlook. Create a Contact
in AD. On the user/mailbox Properties dialog, switch to the Exchange General
tab, and click Delivery Options. Set that new contact as the forward
recipient.
