James

when I boot up this computer, a message comes up:

Please select which operating system you want to start.

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

this computer only has one copy of windows on it.

Edit boot.ini which should show XP Home Edition listed twice. Removing
duplicate entry should resolve the issue.

Go to Start and type msconfig in the run box and press enter, go to the
Boot.ini tab, click Check all paths. If it doesn't remove the invalid
entry, open Control Panel, open System, go to the Advanced tab, click
Settings under Startup and Recovery, click Edit under System Startup and
manually remove the duplicate entry.
