Good Evening,
Two ways:
1. Start/My Computer/Right click the Hard Disk you want to check [usually
"C"/click "Properties/click the "Tools" Tab/under "Error Checking", click
"Check Now". This will run "Check Disk" (without quote markers) using the
"F" parameter (chkdsk /f) at the next Boot.
2. Start/All Programs//Accessories/Command Prompt/ type "chkdsk /f" and hit
the keyboard "Enter" key. Note: you can do the thing at Start/Run which is
more prone to instability, at least on my system.
In both cases, you will be posed the question of scheduling "Check Disk" for
the next startup, enter "y" and press "Enter".
A suggestion: while at My Computer/Properties/ 1.Run "Disk Cleanup" under
the "General" Tab. 2. Then under the "Tools" Tab, run "Error Checking"
[Check Disk] next in sequence. Then run the "Defragmentation" function last
in that sequence.
There are several other ways to execute "Check Disk" but I will stop with
the above two.
Another thing: you need to, once in a while, run "Check Disk" with the "r"
parameter. To do that, go back to the Command Prompt [see 2 above] and enter
"chkdsk /r". This will execute both the /f parameter plus another function.
To find out all the parameters of the Check Disk tool, enter "chkdsk /?" at
the Command Prompt window. Essentially, most only use "f" Or "r".
Hope this helps you.
