Hello: My WinXP Pro SP2 systems has reported file problems after the install
of IE7. Prior to uninstalling IE7, XP auto-ran CHKDSK at every boot, and
then reported when Windows started: "...Virtual paging is too small or set
to 0", and also reported that: "File $MFT is corrupted and unreadable, please
run CHKDSK..." These problem reports continued until uninstall of IE7. My
question: When I run chkdsk now (from CMD in Windows), CHKDSK reports
problems and says to run CHKDSK with the /F switch. Fine -- this of course
won't run when Windows has started because of locking issues... I have tried
answering "YES" to CHKDSK's request that it run on the next boot, but
subsequent running of CHKDSK from Windows still reports problems. Is there a
sure fire way I can run CHKDSK /F so that I know the problems will be fixed
-- from a maintenance or other mode?
Thanks.
