CHKDSK Warning

G

Gramma

SFC scannow does not work, so tried chkdsk in Safe Mode and got "Warning: F
parameter is not specified. Running chkdsk i read-only mode" and only runs
first 2 phases.

Would like to get either SFC scannow/r or CHKDSK /r to run but can't even
get Microsoft Updates to run.

Ok, so why do you need to run these utilities? Have you been hit by malware?
These things can be disabled by such events. In the event that this has
happened you can try using your drive in an external USB enclosure or as a
slave drive in another computer to run these Chkdsk /f on your drive.

Gramma, a review of all your recent threads & posts
(http://groups.google.com/groups/sea...WyTFJoHd8gt3Y-ZEGVftVMvL9po8ShwWRJA&scoring=d)
suggests that your computer's been infested with hijackware for several
months now.

Backup your personal data, then do a format & clean install of Windows.
Please note that another Repair Install will NEVER fix this!

After the clean install, you'll have the equivalent of a "new computer" so
take care of everything on the following page before otherwise connecting
the machine to the internet or a network and before using a USB key that
isn't brand-new or hasn't been freshly formatted:

you can run chkdsk
from the recovery
console.

simply boot up with
a windows setup cd,

select repair and log
in,

then at the disk prompt
run:

chkdsk /p

then "exit" and reboot
with out cd.

To put it simply, chkdsk.exe won't run WITH the /f (fix) option on the
system drive, because there are system files that are always being used by
the operating system so it cannot 'lock' onto the 'current' drive to have
exclusive use over it (which it needs to have to be able to both run AND fix
any errors).

Thus, if you try to run chkdsk /f on the system drive, it will tell you
that it cannot run and ask you if you want it to run AUTOMATICALLY on the
next boot. If you type "Y" (for yes) and [ENTER] then chkdsk with the /f
(fix) option WILL run before Windows loads on the next time you start your
PC.

This is exactly the same as typing chkdsk /p at the 'Recovery Console'
because they both invoke the Autochk.exe program which will only work in
what's called 'Win32 Native API' that is; before the Windows Operating
System 'full' has loaded.

So if you want to run chkdsk on the c: drive type chkdsk /f then
[ENTER] and then press "Y" and [ENTER] to allow chkdsk to run (and fix
errors) on reboot.

Pre-Scrubber plug-in because of this error.

Program: HP Installer Pre-Scrubber plug-in

you cannot chkdsk a cd-rom

The error message is most likely caused by an old worn-out cd-rom
installation disk, unable to read correctly the area on the disk with the
file on it that it has problems with.
i.e
D:\setup\HPZpsc01.exe

Take your computer and all your installation disks to a local, reputable,
and independent (i.e., not BigBoxStore USA or Geek Squad) shop.
