Hi its quite simple, all you have to do is click on the turn off
computer button (in the start menu), hold down the shift click and the
standby button should turn into a hibernate button.

Hope this helps

One more detail: When I go to 'Power Options' in the 'Control Panel' and
use
the 'hibernate' tab in order to 'enable hibernate' it gives me this
message:

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another
process"
Now what?
TIA,
Isaac

Hi Dr Gutman,

Which Anti-Virus program is installed? What are the choices under Power
Schemes? What version of XP are you running?
Do you have the XP CD?

Hi Isaac,

Okay. Start > Run type in cmd and click OK. In the DOS Box, type in sfc
/scannow and hit Enter. Insert the Windows XP CD in your CD drive.

This action will scan all your Windows operating files and make sure
that nothing has changed them. If they were changed, the process replaces
the file changed with the original file. When done, reboot.

Check your Ability to go into Hiberation.

Doctor:
To get your machine to hibernate, try this:
Go to 'Start' > Control panel > power options > tab 'hibernate'>ok: then
go back to the advaanced tab and use the down arrows to select 'when I close
the lid, standby', when I press the power button, ask me…' and 'when I
press the sleep button, hibernate'. Then press apply and ok, and close
everything. After that, try the combination of Fn+F4
