How to enable/disable broadband connection?

I have a broadband connection via cable modem and ethernet broadband router
to three PCs. One PC is WinXP and the others are Win98.

I wish to be able simply to enable or disable the network connection to each
PC individually. It is easy with WinXP because the local area connection
properties allow the option of a connection icon in the notification area of
the task bar. Right clicking this icon allows the connection to be
disabled. Putting the local area connection icon in the 'quick launch' tray
allows the connection to be immediately enabled when required.

How can I achieve the above (or similar) with the Win98 machines???

Windows 98 does not offer this kind of control of network connections,
sorry.

Put a shortcut to the Winipcfg program on the desktop. Click it and
select the NIC. To enable the network connection, click Renew. To
disable the network connection, click Release.
