Internet Connection Icon

The Icon which normally sits beside the Icon for the Local Area Connection
has disappeared
How can I reinstate it?
I find it useful to check my Broadband speed

And, what, pray tell, is the icon you are referring to? Mine is a speaker
and the Google talk icon. Only you know which one you are talking about.

Go to the Network folder, right click on your connection/properties/show
icon in task bar or some such.

Many thanks for your help
I went to Network connections on Control Panel but it only listed Local Area
connection and Internet connection was missing
It previously was there
Is there another way of finding the network folder? I have used the search
facility with no success

Further to my last communication I decided to reinstall my modem Netgear)
and during the process the icon appeared for the Internet Connection but at
the finish it disappeared!
Quite a mystery

If it is wired with Network Cable - it is called "Local Network Connection"
(sometimes with a number after it) and if Wireless - it is likely called
"Wireless Network Connection" (sometimes with a number after it).

I suspect that sometimes when going through a router it does not register as
an internet connection. Ours seem to be a bit random as to whether they
show the internet connection icon too. The router is a Buffalo. (Also,
using a spare router as a wireless bridge we get two LAC icons as well.)
I'd say, just as long as you are getting your web pages, it's not worth
worrying about. You can check your speed via Internet Frog, or similar.

Thanks for your reply. I agree it isn't a real problem and I have been
getting the speed through CNET
Believe or not as I typed this I noticed that the icon has reappeared!!
Problem solved for the moment!

Yes. it tends to behave like that.
Another possibility: if you have several users, is that one of them turns on
more connections than another, and some are set to show icons and others
not. I often find my partner has onboard dongle, wireless bridge, and
ethernet all on at the same time.
