How to eliminate old empty lists outlook adds to drop down menu i.

When I open a blank new e mail message to send and click on the "to" button
to display the contacts lists there are many many copies of old deleted lists
on the drop down button (which contain no names) and when you click on them
(because they have the same name as the one you are looking for) you get a
dialog box and you have to click OK and keep clicking different lists till
you find the one that contains the contacts. I wish to know how to delete
all those contact lists from this dialog box. Any thoughts?
