How to edit external image files in frontpage 2003

Talk about frustrating. I lost an Hour frigging around with this.
Basically I could find NO Options for editing external files.
These is an edit button in the Picture properties dialog.
But its always grayed out (I think because I'm not editing a
FRONTPAGE web (with VTI folder etx).
I searched help for an hour and found nothing on that dialog
and nothing on that button and why it is grayed out.
I found when I do edit a real FP web I finally get the button available
and an extra menu option called "Open with" when rightclicking a picture.
But when I edit a standalone HTML page the "Open with" Image
editing option simply disappears and the Edit button grays out with no
warning.
What bugs me is there are a lot of complex dialogs in FP 2003
and I could not find help for any of them. Honestly I find Google
more help than the Office help. Its appauling -- wastes my valuable
time. Please please please write a standard CHM like the other
applications and properly document every dialog and control.
Every other application in the word does this. If you think FP
is so intuitive that it does not need conventional help and
help buttons in each dialog --- please think again. Office
is far from intuitive and really needs proper layed out help
with a real TOC that I can drill into and find things.

I would just open the image with an image editor and make the desired
changes. Why wouldn't that work?

Edit your images in an image editor - frontpage is an HTML editor not an
image editor.

Thanks for the reply but you miss the point.
Frontpage allows you to edit images with an external editor.
Saves you from discovering the URL in picture properties,
then finding the file, then edit.
Point is this feature of FP 2003 appears to be broken - in that
unless you have one of those stupid FP webs with VTI folders
you never get to see the edit command.
Anyway thanks
Problem has been reported now

Actually editing a standalone HTML file cripples many FP
features. The one I hate is is this...
You are in d:\x\x\x\x\x\folder and click say
image browse button. FP then goes and opens
some folder location like c:\ so that you have to navidgate
back to d:\x\x\x\x\x\folder -- very frustrating.
I would expect FP to at least recognize the document was
on D:\ drive or better still open at d:\x\x\x\x\x\folder
to help me. :-(

You need to configure an external image editor for images in FP
Tools Options Configure Editors
- select or add your image types
- browse to your image editor
When Editing images from w/i FP it will open that default image editor
Always use Save (not save as) in the image editor,
close it to see the changes in FP
