Hi
Every time I open a window, it opens with the 'File and Folder Tasks' list
in the left hand column. So the first thing I always have to do is click
the 'Folders' button on the toolbar, to get rid of that task list and
display my folder hierarchy.

This is hardly a major problem compared to some we all experience from time
to time, but it does irritate me. I can't find a way to open up a window
with the Folders pane showing. I expected it to be in Tools/Folder Options
but I can't find a way to do it. Can anyone tell me please?!
Thanks

Well instead of just using 'My Computer' or 'My Documents', you could create
a link on the desktop to explorer.exe, this will open will the hierarchy as
standard, or the other option is to go into the Windows folder and create a
shortcut for the other Explorer (Windows Explorer Command), one opens with
'My Documents as default, and the other with C:

The option that you are searching for is in Tools - Folder Option - Use
Window Classic Folder. But it won't solve your problem.

There are two methods:

1. Right Click on Every Folder and Choose Explorer

and the best deal is:

1. Double click on any folder while holding down the SHIFT key.

let us know, which one you choose.

Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types -> hilite 'Folder' -> click 'Advanced' -> hilite 'explore' ->
click 'Set Default' -> 'OK' your way out.

Keith I tried this but SetDefault was grayed out when I highlightd explore.
If I highlighted open it became available. So, I did nothing. Any other
ideas?

Was 'explore' also in bold print? If so, Windows already thinks it is the default action. What is
the default (bold print) option when you right-click on a folder? If you right-click a folder &
select 'Explore', does it open with the folder pane displayed?

Yes to both questions. Explore is in bold print and right-click folder and
select explore opes with the folder pane display.

Keith,

Let me redefine the (very minor but annoying) problem perhaps the message I
piggy-backed on wasn't so clear.

My problem is when I double-click on My Computer the screen opens with
folders on the left side and the drives on the right. When I double-click on
Control Panel it opens the same way. Folders on the left side and the various
Control Panel items on the right.

If I click on View Explorer Bar and unclick Folders the screen then displays
the blue screen with Systems Tasks, Other Places, Details, etc. on the left
side and the drives on the right. I want this display to be the default
when I double-click on My computer & Control Panel. But unclicking folders in
the View, Explorer Bar doesn't "stick".

Yep, you piggy-backed on someone who wanted the opposite of what you do! :)

Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types -> hilite 'Folder' -> click 'Advanced' -> hilite 'open' ->
click 'Set Default' -> 'OK' your way out.

Yep you're right just the opposite. Hence, your response was just the
opposite. It work! Thanks for your time and sorry for the confusion.
