How To Disable Hibernate?

I want my computer to always be on, with the screen to turn off after 20
minutes. I don't want the system to hibernate, since I occasionally
access it remotely, which doesn't work when it's hibernating.

My problem is that the system intermittently goes into hibernation
within 8 hours, maybe a couple times a week. The rest of the days it
doesn't go into hibernation even after being left alone for > 12 hours.

Control Panel -> Power Options shows that the Power scheme is Always on,
with the monitor turning offf after 20 minutes and the hard disk never
turning off and the system never going into standby.

Is there some other setting I need to look at?

Thanks,
MMC

Yes, look at the hibernate tab in Power Settings and remove the check mark.
The machine wont hibernate after that.

My computer shows a hibernation tab and has a
check box to disable/enable it. If you haven't I'd
turn off all power options in the BIOS and let
windows control it.

turn off all power options in the BIOS and let

Be careful to leave power management enabled in BIOS. Disabling completely
could result in the need for a repair install. Instead, just eliminate any
scheduled settings in this area. Then use Power Options in XP to setup time
limits. If "never" is your choice, that can be selected in XP's Power
Options too.

I've got the tab also, and it's unchecked. I'll check the BIOS next
time I reboot.

Check Power Options - Hibernation page to ensure that Hibernation is
Off.

If that is, and the power options are as you describe, then check in
your BIOS setup to see if there are Power saving options there which
might do it

I checked the BIOS. It's not set to hibernate, so I didn't make any
changes. I noticed something that's probably the solution: My wife's
login has hibernate enabled! I would think these sort of system-wide
settings are the same in all profiles, but I guess not.

Hopefully that's the solution. I'll let you guys know, otherwise.

Thanks for all the help,
MMC
