How to delete section without deleting the section formatting?

Word Help states: "When you delete a section break, you also delete the
section formatting for the text above it. That text becomes part of the
following section, and it assumes the formatting of that section". This is
ABSURD. Why should the formatting from the current section become part of
the section I am deleting.
If section 1 is Portrait and section 2 is Landscape. When I delete section
2, all text and page format in Section is converted to Landscape. I do NOT
want Lansdscape, that is why I am deleting that section. This is an ABSURD
behavior. Please advise how can I delete a scetion without inherting the
formatting from the deleted section. Thanks,

The formatting info for a section is stored in the section break at the END
of the section. The formatting for the LAST section is stored in the final
paragraph mark at the end of the document. When you delete section 2, you
must NOT include the section break between 1 and 2, because that break
contains the formatting for section 1. To see the section break, switch to
Normal view.
