How to Deactivate XP Pro

P

Paak Waan

I have an illegal copy of XP Pro that has been activated. I have purchased a
legal copy of XP Pro and want to deactivate the current copy and then
reactivate with the new product key without having to reinstall the
operating system. My system is up to date with SP2 installed already.

Is this possible? I cannot find how to do this on the Microsoft website.

Thank you.

I have deactivated windows but have been unable to reactivate with my new
cd-key. I bought an OEM version of XP Pro and I suspect this is the problem
but I'm not sure. My computer is home built. The Microsoft activation phone
line folks generated a new key for me and this did not work either. When I
enter the keys (either one) the error message says I typed it incorrectly,
although this is not the case.

I am at the point of reinstalling the OS with the new key, any other
suggestions to get the new key to work with the current OS?

TIA
