How to create master slides??

Need help creating master slides using an already existing set of slides. I
tried the SLIDE DESIGN feature and even though I click on the "Recently
used" slide under 'Apply a design template' nothing happens.

I have PPT 2002

You can edit the current Slide Master by going to View > Master > Slide Master.
