How to change default file format back to DOCX

Hi everyone,
I am trying to solve a mistery of how to change default file format back to
Word 2007 - docx.
I change it a long while ago to doc, so every new document have it.
Now when I change it back to DOCX in Word options-Save in "Save files in
this format" - it does work, until I close word.
Next time I open Word - "Save files in this format" is back to DOC.
I tried to change it when no document is opened as well - it doesn't work.
Any ideas?

PS: same with Excel and PowerPoint

Thanks for the quick responce.
Just tried deleting Data key and Word key from the registry several times -
no luck.
Default file format keep jumping back to DOC.

I think it is pre-configured in the software - company policy I guess - it is
the same on all machines in the office. And this is not standard behaviour as
I understood.
I just didn't know somethink like this is possible. Option is not disable
but you can't set it...
Anyway.
