How to capture digital feedthru video?

MovieMaker seems to be configured to capture digital video from my DV device by operating it. It complains if it has no tape and when I put in tape it begins to play it for capture

However, I am trying to capture digitized feedthrough video produced on the firewire output. Is there a way to bypass the camera operation and simply capture. I see the video on the small screen but am not able to capture it without forcing my DV camera to play a tape and thereby forcing out the feedthrough.

In the ... Limitations.. section, look for the paragraph about pass-through
using a camcorder. There's a link to a Microsoft utility to help with that,
something that most have reported having success with.
