how to bypass login

After getting a missing file and won't boot message, I proceeded to try to
fix by booting from my windows pro cd. Everything loaded and came back to
Windows start up. When I enter my password it says " The specified domain
either does not exist or could not be contacted". I then reloaded windows xp
pro and after things loaded and the computer reboots, during the stage of
Installing Devices, I hit shift+f10 to get user management screen. Here I've
tried to change password (didn't work), tried to get rid of password (didn't
work), and tried to add guest user( which also now requires a password though
I didn't set it up that way). My computer now sits and I can't sign on.
What can you suggest.
Thanks

It sounds like you are trying to logon to a domain rather than the local PC.
Perhaps you were doing so before, but using cached credentials. (At some
point in the past the computer must have been connected to a domain)

If Windows has been reinstalled then any cached domain-credentials will have
been wiped-out, hence you cannot log-on unless connected to the domain.

Check the logon-screen to see if there is a dropdown-box that allows you to
select the domain or the local computer. If so, select the local computer and
logon with the Administrator password you specified during setup.

This should get the machine working, albeit you won't have your previous
files or settings. To get these back you need to temporarily move the
userprofile-contents to another folder, create a same-named local user, logon
once as that user, change back to Adminstrator and then copy the contents of
the profile back.
