how to build a chart?

in excel 2003 its easy to build a chart... you just goto insert, then chart,
choose say x-y scatter and it comes up with a dialogue box which you edit to
fill in the data range you need, then click next a few times for other
otions.

I can't find how you do this in Excel 2007. Instead I click Insert, then
click on the scatter chart, then click the ones with lines and hey presto a
chart comes up in the middle of the spreadsheet but it's invaribly not what i
want. How can I bring up the interface like in Office 2003 that lets me fill
in the chart options so I can build what I want instead of what Microsoft
wants?

I think the answer is you have to selct the data in advance and rely on the
auto builder. you can't get a dialogue up to fill things out all at once from
the beginning. as usual life might be easier for the majority who have simple
charts but will be harder for advanced user. depressing

You can no longer create a chart all at once in a wizard-style interface.
The Office gods have decreed that the Ribbon is how we'll perform our tasks,
and that's how we're stuck doing them, even if the wrong ribbon is always
showing or the same tasks take more steps than before. The new charts sure
are pretty, though, aren't they?
